For me, there’s not many positives to be found at a Flower Show. Garish displays of exotic plants from all over the world hold no appeal at all to me. Since my focus is to teach people to create welcoming habitat for wildlife with native plants so that they will attract more birds, butterflies, native bees, and other wildlife to their gardens, there is usually not much of interest to be found at any flower show I’ve ever been to.
In fact, the only reason I attend the Philadelphia Flower Show year after year is because my good friends Bill Schaffer and Kris Kratt, the incredibly talented married design team behind Schaffer Designs, create such beautiful and amazing displays every year that I go to see what new extravaganza they’ve designed for this year.
Bill Schaffer and Kris Kratt have won Best in Show 7 times in the past 10 years. And they have authored a beautiful book describing the process behind each year’s exhibit called Taking the Flower Show Home: Award Winning Designs From Concept to Completion.
