Author, Educator, Speaker
Birder, Butterfly Watcher, Happiest With Binoculars in Hand
I’m Carole Sevilla Brown, and I’m the Ecosystem Gardener. I firmly believe that conservation begins in your own backyard, and I’m passionate about teaching people to become stewards of their properties.
Author at Ecosystem Gardening, founder and managing editor of the team blog Beautiful Wildlife Garden and the team blog Native Plants and Wildlife Gardens, I bring people together to learn to create welcoming habitat for wildlife in their gardens.
I’ve traveled around the country to speak to groups, organizations, and conferences about protecting wildlife, creating habitat, and how to make the world a better place, one garden at a time. I teach you to garden sustainably, conserve natural resources, and create welcoming habitat for wildlife in your gardens so that you will attract more birds, butterflies, pollinators, frogs, toads, bats, bees, and other wildlife.
I’m a Conservation Biologist and have spent over 20 years as a consultant designing, installing and maintaining wildlife gardens for people who want to share their space with birds, butterflies, frogs and toads, bats, reptiles and amphibians, and yes even insects.
Ever been confused by conflicting and incomplete information about attracting wildlife to your property?
So was I. So, while I was writing my thesis (Conservation Gardening and Sustainable Landscaping), I completely researched subjects such as: ecology of birds, amphibians and reptiles, pollination, mammals, butterflies, and insect-plant interactions; botany, ecological restoration, sustainable landscaping, soil biology, and water conservation. I’m going to share this research here with you.
I can teach you to manage your property sustainably, in an environmentally friendly and conscious way. Being conscious of the impact of the choices you make is the first step to benefits to you and the health of the environment around you. This begins with choosing the plants that have the most value to wildlifeand are most appropriate to your region.
People I teach include homeowners, business owners, school and college groundskeepers, nursery owners, city planners, and open space advocates. Together we work on finding ways to share our properties with wildlife, conserve water, improve soil health and prevent erosion, use less fossil fuels, make sustainable choices, and choose the best plants.
I have travelled around the country speaking about these subjects for native plant societies, gardening groups, homeowner associations, nature centers, schools, and businesses.
Please contact me for details.
I’m an avid birder, butterflyer, naturalist, and photographer, and am always excited to bring this passion for the natural world into our discussions.
I’m thrilled that you are here to join in this discussion!
